In the 1800s, Westerville was known as the "Dry capital of the world" for its role in the Temperance Movement. It even became the headquarters of the Anti-Saloon League. Today there is a museum in the Westville public library detailing its history. Another historic place, the Hanby House, residence of composer Benjamin Hanby, and a site on the National Underground Railroad. Westerville's historic district, impeccably restored, shows the residents pride in preserving their past.

Westerville is a growing community with excellent schools good health care, and year-round recreational activities. There are more than a dozen golf courses, three local swimming pools, youth football and soccer leagues and an outdoor skating rink.
