Public Education
New Albany-Plain Local is a school district in rapid transition. We have grown in the past 12 years from 650 students to over 4,000. Our faculty has increased from 65 to over 275. We had 7 school buses in 1992; now the fleet includes 36 buses and travels more than 340,000 miles per year. Our budget in 1992 was $3 million; today it is $36 million, and we have capital assets of over $180 million. Our campus in 1992 consisted of three buildings on 12 acres. Today there are eight buildings on over 200 acres, our superintendent is Dr. Steve Castle. In 1992, our proficiency scores on the Ohio Report Card ranked us in the lowest quartile in Franklin County, as were our salaries. Fewer than 50% of our graduating seniors went on to higher education. In 2004, with test scores currently placing the district in the top 3% in the state, competitive salaries, and a highly talented staff, New Albany is a nationally recognized school district.
